LUKEWARM People are continually concerned with playing it safe; they are slaves to the god of control. This focus on safe living keeps them from sacrificing and risking for God.

To see God’s glory you have to take a faith based risk. This is total trust in the Lord, and with that the Lord likes to show what He can do.

The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go.

I remember feeling disheartened as we learned about the corruption and worldly powers of the church during the Middle Ages. A story was told of two clergyman who were fingering and counting money as it went into the church coffers. One said to the other, “No longer need we say, ‘Silver and gold have we none.’–to which the other more introspective clergyman replied, ‘But neither can we say, in the name of Jesus Christ, arise and walk!”

Keep Walking

Prodigal: We have been walking a while.

“If we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other” (v.7). That’s what makes it possible to have true fellowship: a community of people who are unafraid of bringing their pain, wounds, and secrets into God’s light, a people who are unafraid of sharing their brokenness with each other. When we begin to grasp how much God loves us, even in our brokenness, we are able to love each other, to have true fellowship. And when we love each other this way, we can encourage each other to keep walking in the light of truth.

This is a process, but in the process I will be there. I will help you to continue to walk in the light of truth.

Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind.

LUKE WARM Warning

Prodigal: That pool was luke warm!

Me: It might be nice to swim in but don’t keep that type of attitude.

Lukewarm People think about life on earth much more often than eternity in heaven. Daily life is mostly focused on today’s to-do list, this week’s schedule, and next month’s vacation. Rarely, if ever, do they intently consider the life to come. Regarding this, C.S. Lewis writes, “If you read history you will find that the Christians who did most for the present world were precisely those who thought most of the next. It is since Christians have largely ceased to think of the other world that they have become so ineffective in this.

If we don’t think about hell, we are not sad that the person we are talking to is going there. Sometimes eternity has to be the focus so that we share the gospel more.

Sanctify yourselves, therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the Lord your God. Leviticus 20:7

One Thing to Do

In our enthusiasm to practice the Disciplines, we my fail to practice discipline. The life that is pleasing to God is not a series of religious duties. We have only one thing to do, namely, to experience a life of relationship and intimacy with God, “the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change” (James 1:17)
